Nov 21 | Singapore Buddhist Free Clinic | 30th Anniversary SBFC celebrated its 30th anniversary at the open field in front of Aljunied MRT station.Guest-of-Honour was Mrs Goh Chok Tong. She presented awards and souvenirs to physicians and volunteers from SBFC. Also launched is SBFC's TransitLink Farecard. 10 pieces of the farecards personally autographed by Mrs Goh were auctioned off for $34,600.00 for its Medical Fund. The farecard with the motif of a flying deva playing a "pipa" is now available at all SBFC branches at $12.00 each. Footnote: Established in 1969 with only one clinic at a corner of the second floor of Phor Toh See Temple in Yan Kit Road. SBFC now has 5 clinics and a rehabilation centre providing 60,000 treatments per month. Plans are underway to relocate the Redhill Branch to the void deck of Block 131 Clarence Lane and to reconstruct the headquaters in Geylang into 8 storey building. |

By Vipassana International Centre (Singapore) | Vipassana Meditation Course Vipassana International Centre (Singapore), affiliated to Vipassana Research Institute, Dhammagiri, Igatpuri, India, is organizing a Vipassana Meditation Course as taught by S N Goenka or his assistant teachers. This second Vipassana meditation course begins on the evening of 27th November and concludes on 8th December around 6.30 AM. for approximately only 80 participants.Language of instruction will be in bilingual( Mandarin and English ). Dec 28 to Jan 01 | Karma Kagyud Buddhist Centre | 100,000,000 Recitations of Avalokiteshvara Mantra - Om Mani Padme Hum for the World Peace in the new Millennium The Karma Kagyud Buddhist Centre, Singapore organises the first Buddhist Millennium Project, also known as the Mani Dungdrub Project, for all participants to collectively recite 100,000,000 times "OM MANI PADME HUM", the Six Syllable Mantra of Avalokiteshvara (locally known as Kuan Shih Yin Pu Sa) from 28 November 1999 to 1 January 2000.
