Biography of Venerable Losal Zangpo Rinpoche



Venerable Losal Zangpo Rinpoche is the Khenpo of the Drukpa Kagyu Institute for Higher Studies at Khampagar Monastery in Tashi Jong, Himachal Pradesh, India, the seat of H.E. the 9th Khamtrul Rinpoche. He also teaches philosophy to the nuns of the new Dongyu Ling Nunnery, which is under the spiritual direction of H.E. the 9th Khamtrul Rinpoche and was founded by Ven. Tenzin Palmo.

In keeping with family tradition, Ven. Losal Zangpo became a monk of Khampagar Monastery at the age of 11. He studied Buddhist philosophy mainly under Khenpo Rinchen as well as masters of the four Tibetan traditions for 18 years.

Ven. Losal Zangpo also received many teachings and transmissions from his root guru, the 8th Khamtrul Rinpoche, and from some of the most famous lamas of the age, including Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, Adheu Rinpoche and Dorzong Rinpoche. With the H.E. Rinpoche, he also studied sacred ritual dance and thangka painting and today he is very accomplished in both these arts.

Under the guidance of the various yogis such as Togden Cholek, Togden Ajam and Togden Trinlay, Khenpo Losal Zangpo studied the entire Drukpa Kagyu meditation tradition, which includes the Six Yogas of Naropa and many other practices.

Khenpo Losal Zangpo has also received teachings in South India, Nepal, Bhutan and Sikkim. By 1985, while he was still studying with yogic masters, Khenpo Losal Zangpo decided that the time has come for him to pass on the valuable knowledge and teachings of his lamas. He began teachings at his own Khampagar monastery, and then started travelling and gave teachings in other parts of the world - Argentina, Taiwan and USA.
