Dharmacari Anagarika Subhuti was born in England as Alexander Kennedy. He
completed a degree in philosophy and then spent a year doing psychiatric
social work. In 1969, he encountered the Friends of the Western Buddhist
Order (FWBO) founded by the Ven. Sangharakshita. He then started working
full time for the movement and took on the Buddhist name Subhuti. He has
helped to establish the London Buddhist Centre, and is now one of the most
senior members of the Western Buddhist Order. His widely acclaimed books
include "Buddhism for Today", "A Buddhist Vision", and "Unity in Diversity".
