Biography of His Holiness the third Penor Rinpoche



His Holiness the third Penor Rinpoche of Nyingmapa Palyul Lineage succeeded HH Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and HH Dudjom Rinpoche to be the Supreme Head of Nyingmapa Buddhism since 1993. He is also the eleventh throne holder of Palyul lineage. Khenpo Ngaga, one of the most important Dzogchen masters and the fifth Dzogchen Rinpoche recognised Penor Rinpoche as the emanation of the great Dzogchen master Vimalamitra and reincarnation of second Drubwang Pema Norbu Rinpoche.

He ascended the Golden Throne of the Palyul Lineage Holder at the age of twelve. When he was young, Penor Rinpoche was in retreat to pracise the "IIlusory Body of Manjusri" a mind treasure of Mipham Rinpoche. At the conclusion of the retreat, a sweet, enchanting sound could be heard coming from his shrine room and the mirror on his altar radiated brilliant light. He started building Namdroling Monastery in India since 1963. Today this monastery has a Sangha community of over 3000 lamas and has become the single largest Nyingmapa Monastic Institution out of Tibet of consisting primary school, higher scholastic Institute, retreat centre, a nunnery, home for old age and so forth. In fact it has all the facilities to study the aspects of Nyingmapa tradition.

Since 1985, Penor Rinpoche has spread dharma and established many centres in United States, Canada, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia and Nepal, besides other monasteries around Northern part of India. Penor Rinpoche is a master who embodies the foresight of Manjusri, the compassion of Avalokiteshvara, and the dynamism of Vajrapani.
